About this Course

This is an Accredited Course by the Malta Further & Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), at MQF/EQF Level 3. This course is by City & Guilds at Level 2.

The City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Women’s and Men’s Hairdressing is designed to equip aspiring hairstylists with essential skills and knowledge. This comprehensive course covers a wide range of techniques, including cutting, styling, coloring, and professional grooming for both women and men. With a blend of practical training and theoretical instruction, students will develop the confidence and competence needed to excel in the dynamic hairdressing industry.

Target Audience

The target audience for the City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Women’s and Men’s Hairdressing includes aspiring hairstylists, individuals seeking a career change into hairdressing, and those with a passion for hair styling and grooming. It is also suitable for salon assistants looking to formalize their skills and gain professional qualifications, as well as recent school leavers aiming to enter the hairdressing industry. Our courses are constantly ongoing and are all Part-Time courses. Once you decide to enrol for this course, contact us and we will get back to you with the soonest available slot. Lessons are held once a week for an average of 2-4 hours, depending on your chosen course as per the guided learning hours are referenced. Previous experience is also taken into consideration.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the learner will be able to:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in cutting, styling, and finishing techniques for both women’s and men’s hair.
  • Apply coloring and lightening methods safely and effectively.
  • Perform various hair treatments, including conditioning, relaxing, and perming.
  • Understand and implement health, safety, and hygiene practices in a salon environment.
  • Conduct client consultations to determine hair care needs and provide personalized styling solutions.
  • Use professional hairdressing tools and equipment with confidence and precision.
  • Develop customer service skills to enhance client satisfaction and salon experience.

Awarding Body

This qualification is awarded by City & Guilds. This qualification is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority. MFHEA deems this course to be at MQF/EQF Level 3 in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.

Entry Requirements

No academic qualifications are requested to join this programme, however, applicants are expected to:

  • be over the age of 16
  • be able to communicate in Maltese or English.

If an applicant does not meet the above entry requirements, you are encouraged to contact the Academy for an interview.

Assessment Mode

The programme is 24 months long and includes a theoretical and practical exam during the final week.

Language of Instruction & Delivery Mode

This programme will be delivered in English in our Campus in Mellieha. 

Your own equipment is needed for this course. Tools needed: Mannequin & Clamp, Hair Dryer, Styling Brushes, Clippers & Trimmers, Styling Combs & Sectioning clips. Should you choose to purchase your tool kit from our salon, you can do so at special student prices.

    Mandatory Units (all must be completed)

    - Follow health and safety practice in the salon

    - Client consultation for hair services

    - Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp

    - Promote products and services to clients in a salon

    - Cut women's hair

    - Colour and lighten hair

    - Cut men’s hair

     

    Optional Units – minimum of 14 credits from the following optional units

    - Styling Men's Hair

    - Plaiting and Twisting Hair

    - Working in the hair industry

    - Perm and neutralise hair

    - The Art of Dressing Hair

    - Cut facial hair

    - Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector

    - Display stock to promote sales in a salon

    - Provide scalp massage services

    - Salon reception duties

    - Style and finish African type hair

    - Relax African type hair
